My dad's been in the hospital all week. I had him hold the twine while I tried to get a shot in the low light inside the hospital. Given the subject and conditions I decided to accentuate the graininess and make it into a duotone.

-Handheld, Super-macro mode
-RGB Curve
-Channel Mixer - Monochrome mode
-Grayscale mode
-Duotone mode using Black and Pantone 143
-Clone out one distracting fiber
-Resize
-USM at 16%/64 dia/TH = 0
-USM at 88%/0.8 dia/TH = 5
-SaveAs JPEG at quality 7/10 = 174kb

Killer good. I never saw this. Congrats on a fine image, and incidentally on the OOBIE.

I didn't have the imagination to see this without your explanation. Now that you've added the words, I can only say, "Yes! You nailed the Challenge!"

Congratulations on your OOB

Wow...I love the textures of this photo...the withered hand with the frayed pieces of the riata portray the poignant textures of life itself.

The old hand clutches at the twine it uses to bundle his newspapers.

It remembers the feel of a lariat.

I wish there was something here that would put this into perspective. could just be me, but it's hard to tell what I'm looking at.

I'm normally a fan of grain, but this doesn't do it for me. I can't really figure out what the subject is. Sorry.

I really like this, but the rope seems too small. Don't know why that bothers me. Maybe it just doesn't feel as rough and cowboyish as the hand seems

too grainy and abstract. I know what a riata is and still can't make much sense of this shot.

What the ???! Looks like some sort of body part, and not a pleasant one at that.

I'm sorry, but I can't tell what this is!

The angle makes it really hard to tell what we are looking at. The extra noise, while adding to the old time feeling of the shot is also a bit distracting.
