This was taken at a birthday party my kids were invited to. We didnt go intending on shooting any pics, but the mom only had a disposable camera. We had the camera in the car and ended up bringing it in. Didnt bring the flash though and I dont have a clue how to use the on camera flash to save my life. Bumped the ISO up to 800, switched to manual settings and hoped that RAW conversion would save me for the shots as I would have to bump up exposure in most every one.

I remember seeing this shot happen. Aimee remembers seeing this shot happen as well and she also remembers seeing me catch it. As I was editing this I was thinking that pawdrix would be proud. I rarely "capture" images. Granted I capture all of my images but only in the sense of them being on a memory card. Most every picture I have taken has been created to some extent by me to capture. This image here was a found capture. The only thing I had to do with this image was be in the right place at the right time and hitting the button as I saw the "event" unfold.

Rowan had thrown the ball (a whopping 2 miles an hour) and Aidan and Gideon were around her watching it go down the lane. It was a moment of peace and yet one of anticipation as well. I never would have thought that this situation would have given me a FS entry like this. I do love this shot and I am so glad that the voters came along for the ride. 4 faves in challenge - how cool is that.

So a question to some of the guys I admire - pawdrix, nixter, e301 - how did I do?

Wow Tim! What a perfect moment. The desat helps a lot to make it seem to bring out the timeless quality of interacting children, and the suspense of the activity.

I freekin love this one Tim.
I have an affinity for Bowling - I was always decent, but never one to spin the ball too much and of course those darn kids. This just brings innocence back for me and is quite palpably emotive.

Well, you scored a 7 from me. Norman Rockwell is not exactly my favorite painter, but you capture him well. And the moment does seem real, as indeed it is.

Great story...but..did it go in the gutter or did the ball actually hit some pins?

For me at least, DPC is a strange place. I had this image and at least a dozen others rated much higher than mine - and deservedly so. This is what photography is about. This place is crazy when they don't rate this image above a static nature shot such as mine. Or maybe its just me - meaning trumps wow every time. I love this and think you did really well with the editing, particularly concerning the circumstances. You should do it more often...

tim, this may be my favourite of yours. the truly 'caught' images are so much more satisfying, don't you think? the lack of control means the magic when it works is so much stronger.

There is an element of joy to be found in caputured captures. Even better when they turn out this nicely.

Very nostalgic. I like the subject, the composition, the B&W. All very good. Maybe a little over sharpened. Soften that a bit and you've got a 10.

Normally I detest a letter box frame, but in this case, with the B&W and subject, it works splendidly. Thanks for daring to be out of the box a bit!
