I love these these DPC challenges, where one has to think of an idea, and then go about doing it. Getting the materials and the props, setting it all up, taking images to see if it works. Then re setting it up again, with the differences that make the image look better. Processing with the advanced rules, and deciding which one to enter.
This was fun.
The idea was to use black and white checkerboard pattern material, as a backdrop. I also had a black cookie jar, well almost black, and removed the lid to turn it into a rectangular vase. I then had to go out to buy the material I needed for the backdrop. I also had to get some extra material, to cover up the patterned areas, that were not black, around the base of the black vase.
I was so lucky to find black & white checkerboard, 1 inch squared material that I needed. I also found the same black & white smaller checkerboard material to match, to put around the base of the black vase.
I was now ready to get some fresh flowers to arrange into the vase to complete my idea. Orange roses, did the job perfectly. It definitely took a lot of time to set up, as the squares on the material, were not that square, and I had to do a lot of pining to keep it all together. I ended up having to do three different set-ups in two days, until I got it right.
I am pleased with this result.

| I really like this image. I think I would've liked a bit more if the checkers around the base of the flowers had blended more into the larger checkers of the background. Feels a little busy in that area. I love the idea, when I read the description for this challenge I thought there would be about 200 black (or white) backgrounds with a marble, rubber duck or single flower. But it turned out to be a very good challenge. Great shot adding to favs. |

| My one critique is that the light on the foreground row is pretty harsh. There's a loss of depth and texture that, to me, does the image in. |
