thank you so much for great comments and scores ...and favs! - 6 during voting, I think this is the first for me! I really like this photo, so it was nice to see that it did well.

This is Nikita, a son of our friends living in Vermont. The photo was taken in Jamaica state park just as the sun was setting, which helped to hold long exposure.

This photo received 2nd prize in Worldwide Photography Gala Awards' 2nd Black and White Competition in the category "Children"

What RKT said. :-) Congrats on the top ten with this. Warms the cockles of my heart (even though I have no idea what cockles are) to see such a fine B&W do well.

Great tones and such a brilliant quiet feel to this pick. He looks like he stepped out of a novel or something...unreal. I love the darkness and the contrast and it's composed beautifully. A 9 from me and adding to favorites.

Beautifully composed and exposed, and the B+W conversion is spot on. Bump to a 10.

Surreal. The pose makes the shot.

ETA: Bumping up. I just noticed the reflections in the water act like an arrow pointing to the left. I quite like this shot so it gets my YankO Yellow. Good luck!

the only 10 I gave in this challenge! I like this shot on so many levels: DOF, b/w conversion, sharpness on the technical side; composition, capture of the calmness and mood on the 'soft' side

AMAZING high-contrast study= it looks painted; and I love it! great job!! I look forward to seeing your notes on this! :-) interesting profile, nice choice of foreground/background; the reflections create interesting arrows and the profile does the same... it just =fits together= so nicely! Kudos and compliments on a great shot! :-)

Well; its a great composition, and there is certainly excellent lighting. The boy may be a bit too close to the center for comfort; the eye ends up settling in on the boy, soaking in the light, and then falling right off of the left side of the frame; there is so much movement in the shot that you can't think stillness- and maybe that contrast works- but, to illustrate what I am saying, even the shadows off the rocks in the water make arrows that force the eye to look where the boy is looking. I really like how his body is facing backwards but he is looking forwards, perhaps looking down might have held the eye in the frame;

Nevertheless; despite my rambling; its a great shot with excellent execution and tremendous feel/
