 Flash set to 1/8 power. My first challenge photo in which I've used a flash, be it a speed light or strobe. The shot not a totally unique idea but it's my chance to experiment with new lighting. I have it to test for a few more days. I was split between this shot and my outtake . I liked the coffee beans. The one I posted was my last frame so I thought I should have a few shots without them. But I like the pour and top portion crop of this posted shot.

This was tricky to shoot. Heavy cream would immediately drop to the bottom and then settle over the top of the whole coffee. I wanted to capture that point of entry of the cream going into the hot coffee. For the last few takes I used half/half and milk. Since it was my first time using flashes it took longer than usual and problems with misfiring, wasted many cups to that. No big loss other than time, most of the coffee was not wasted.
This is a big 12oz-14oz mug of coffee. Took 6-8 fresh mugs with successful flash firing takes. Only for the outtake did I take a 2nd shot. Shot till I was out of beans and tired so what a good excuse to stop because once you want to get that shot you cant stop ;)

OMG, how in the world did I miss this fantastic piece! Would have been a sure 10 from me. Actually, it is better without the beans (stereotype). Excellent for your first time of strobing!

Love the shot, lighting is perfect. Did you try any with the cup handle rotated clockwise? Would have been a cool shot for high contrast IV! :)

A lot of coffee shots, this one is my favourite as it works aesthetically as well as in terms of content/ challenge theme. I like the almost black and white nature of it, with that rich dark brown providing such subtle colour.
