This is what I love to do....play trombone and other musical instruments. This is my second occupation/ profession, playing in a few big bands and other musical groups on bass trombone. As one can tell by my username, I identify myself by the musicial instrument I play.

I originally had planned to enter a shot of me working as a chemist/ engineer at my day job work site, but due to restrictions in camera use and the inability to show images from the site without prior approval and release, I decided to go another way...

Editing: Levels, hue/saturation, noise ninja, crop, dodge and burn on eyes and instrument, cloned and mopped up my ugly mug, cloned out some minor reflections in the bell and burned the bell to darken, resize, usm post resize for sharpness and usm at large radius for contrast.

I hope I can get my score above 6 on this one....

Post Challenge: Very happy with the score here.

For dsterner, I used a bounce from an incandescent bump into an umbrella at a low angle from the side. I did have difficulty with the glare on the glasses, so I ended up adjusted the angle of the lit umbrella so that the glare was not visible.

The main problem I had with the shot was the bell of the trombone - it acted as a mirror and picked up all the awful ugly-ness of my basement (especially my unfinished ceiling!)

How perfect!!! I love it when things come together - I think I would have been disappointed with a shot from the day job - this just makes so much more sense. Excellent score and finish!

Very much like the MANY things that make this an outstanding photo/portrait. Outstanding: immediate, straightforward (literally) and a blast.

A fave on this one. Wonderful all around. This is the kind of b/w treatment I have been trying to achieve on some of mine (and failing to get).

Beautiful BW study. Only a little loss of shadow detail keeps it from being perfect.

Trombones just have to be one of the most beautiful things around. I can just imagine the warm full sound from that big bell.

Man! You've just got the studio thing down! Love the conversion, your best SP yet, imo. I guess the only thing distracting are the smudge marks at the bottom of your trombone. I don't know if there's any way around something like that though. Wonderfully crisp and so nicely lit.
