took this of myself. You can imagine how hard that is when I'm this far from the camera.

PP was about dodging and burning to draw attention to my figure onstage, as well as b/w it. Pretty severe sharpening on myself, desharpening on the grass (I guess you'd call that blur).

Agh, this does not thumbnail well. You guys are going to tear this apart.

Also, I don't like it much. But I had to submit something.

Post Challenge: wow, you guys sure liked it more than I did! Thanks so much for all your great comments, and to Posthumous for my first ribbon (official or not :P)!

Glad you guys liked it!

OK, upon second guess, I didn't rate quite as high as I should have. I apologize for that.

Compositionally, I like the balance between the light and dark areas of the shot. It's not quite completely even, but enough to to give it a balanced feeling. I also like how the actor is completely alone "up there."

Technically, it is a good bw shot. The contrast level is good, and there isn't a lot of "murky" grays. The focus, clarity, etc is good, and you stand out well against the background.

A couple of your commenters mentioned eliminating or reducing the amount of black in the foreground. On one hand, I can see this. It would draw more attention to your subject, and seem like less of a wasted space. On the other hand, the way you've done it makes it feel so empty and bleak.

Nice work and best to you in future challenges.

Brilliant. I love the contrast. And... I feel your pain. No auditions for me in at least a month. BLAH.

Wonderful in B&W. Really accents the starkness of the empty stage.

the magnitude of the space creates a wonderfully, horrible lonely feel

Interesting concept - the B&W really helps this shot and I especially like the shadow on the wall. The foreground offers too much dead space for me (but then the empty seats adds to the mood, I suppose.

Too much dark, a pity it could have been a winner in my opinion.

dang it, man! I can see from here you're cute! love the lines, the stairs leading up to the stage. b/w works very well here. 8

Great depiction. I not only like the light and shadows in this shot, but the solitude reflects the "out of work" position you are in. Great vision in the photo, and good luck with your acting!

So, you act like you have a job? You probably spend more time auditioning and marketing yourself than actually working. I suppose that's just the deal for such a career.

Good composition. You pulled this off quite well.

Aw heck, there's some serious competition in this challenge, but I'm-a givin' you the yellow.

I really like the small solitary subject and the b&w for this

I love the image, you've really done a wonderful job getting your point across. Great in b/w.

A tighter crop, especially reducing the amount of foreground black, would be a big improvement IMHO.

Very good. Nice setup but a bit too black in the foreground.

.. so you must be a waiter. LOL Great idea. I like the subtle line of the seats. Nice use of light and dark.

Nice idea and good storytelling in the photo. I think it'd have more impact if you cropped out the large black area in the lower right, though. The lit part of your image is only about 1/4 of the total.
