Why did this frog sit there with a crown on his head?

I have NO idea. *grin*

I broke the crown off of a Christmas ornament and stuck it on this guy's head, but gingerly. He sat there with it on.

Go figure.

I promise to stop entering frogs and toads in every challenge... just as soon as I find something else that I like to shoot as much as I do them. *grin* They're just so darn CUTE! And fun to shoot!

I'm really sorry if you're tired of them. THEY don't seem to mind at all. In fact, they seem quite grateful that I've rescued them from the pool skimmer, the 'endless whirlpool of death'. :)

EDIT during voting:
7 votes: 5.000
41 votes: 5.5610
55 votes: 5.7455 (maybe there IS hope)
77 votes: 5.8442

I don't think there are enough votes that will pull this up to where I thought it would be, though. *sigh* I'll never understand this crowd, I fear. The ones I don't like of mine usually score more highly than the ones I do. *sigh again*

And this one... I got a frog to hold a crown on his head for a photo that's tolerably composed and focused and it's only worth a 5.x?? I just don't get it... *shakes head in wonder*

I so love your frog. Frogs rock!!! they are so cute and funny. I also rescue frogs from the pool skimmer and can't resist taking their pictures. Great job!!

I did not vote in the challenge but I think I would have thought the following.
The important things are ok (focus, color, details) so you get minimum 5. An extra point for the wonderful frog and overall creativity: 6.
Then... nothing else! For me the most distracting and ugly thing of this picture is the purple in it, it's a horrible background for your subject. Had it been yellow or blue (or even green) I would have liked the photo so much more!
But if the biggest thing that does not work in a picture is the only reason why that picture was submitted in a particular challenge, well, I would not vote any higher than 6.
Please keep on shooting frogs, you do wonderful pictures!
especially this one...

This is quite surreal. Some DPCers would just have shot the checkered purple background on its on as their entry.

But you added a pool ball... And then a frog... And as if that wasn't enough you topped it off with a crown! Did you run out of ideas for what to balance on top of the crown? :)

P.S. I think some people confused you with timfythetoo as his wife is also on DPC.

I didnt get to vote on this in the challenge but I actually like it.
Its centered which some people do not like but I do.
the purple is nice and strong and the chequered background is out of focus so gives a good DOF.

This photo is however let down by the frog.
There are a lot of frogs out there who would love the modelling work yet this one just sits there with a bored laissez faire expression.
So, either the frog is a complete Diva or stoned from the glue used to glue the crown to its head.
Either way I would have given this photo 7/10 marks.

I gave it a 7. I am amazed at how you got the frog to stay like that. It's such a cute photo. I think the only reason why I did not give it a higher score is because it was about a frog, with some purple around it. Now if the frog was purple... hmmm.. lol But I think it should have finished higher. For a true example tho of one that REALLY should have gotten a better score, see mine hehe.

Again, I just can't get over how well you have trained your frogs. I'm totally captivated by it all :)

Well, this would've been a 6 or 7 from me. It really makes me smile.

Why not a 10? The background makes my eyes go squoogly. The crown is intricate enough that the complex background just interferes. A plain background would've really set it off nicely.

Then there are the big light reflections. That affects me a little, but DPC generally hates reflected lights.

I really liked this one in the challenge, and I love the set up by you, and how you managed to achieve this by getting that crown on his head.....

Quirky and fun, and a great image for a greeting card.....

Thank you, dtremain! That's exactly what I wanted to hear-- the unvarnished truth.

I do realize that complaining about a 5.9 is not cool. *sigh* I did have higher hopes for this one, though, considering that a trash 'vase' of flowers of mine did over a 6.0 :

It's a comparison thing, I realize. And really... it's the FROG that's more miffed than I am:

I hate it for him. I really do. :)

BTW, I think you have me confused with someone else. My hubby doesn't do photography. My "Too" in Lydia Too is just because there was already a "Lydia" here before me. It's not my last name.

Thanks BUNCHES for your critique.

OK... She who complains about a 5.9...
Possible vote losers: Too busy (gingham checks and polka dots for table / background), hot spots on pool ball, main subject not purple, bottom of the ball cropped off, visible gap between background and table cloths on right side, black spots on top crown points. I'm also trying to figure out if the crown is too tall - out of scale with the frog / ball - not sure about that. FWIW.
Now for my wife: Nothing special about the picture (I asked her - a frog with a crown - nothing special?), too busy - thinks that a white table / background would've made the purple ball / frog pop, also thought the frog's face looked a bit OOF.

Subjectively - it makes me smile. It also gives me visions of trying to pose the frog, set the flash, focus, and getting ready to snap, when the frog is done and gives a little hop and goes on his/her merry way.

I enjoy so many of your photos (your hubby too), and I smile when I see either of you ribbon.

This is just like out of a fairytale. I had this pegged for a higher placement in the challenge but you beat your avg. Wtg! :)

Well I liked it a lot and gave it a 7. Admittedly I thought the frog was fake, but still liked it. :)

all the different prints for bottom and background take a lil away, I think black would have popped better...and placing the frog on the ball so you couldn't see the number area would have made the this shot! How ever did you get that crown on his head...

I like it and think it's awesomely original. I'm being anal-retentive when I say I'm a little distracted by the lifted flap on the right.

This is way too cool. Love the crown. Is that you Lydia? you've outdone yourself. Cant wait to see what you come up with next. My only nitpick, the papers/napkins? at the bottom not being perfectly aligned. I said it was a nitpick ;) The whole setup works well though. (no vote)

now that's balance!
the background is a little too distracting but the smile on the frogs face makes up for it 7
