taken today on the firetrail .. he was just taking off, which is why his wings are blurred ..
i've been wanting to get more of the insect in focus but still have a shallow depth of field in the surroundings .. this is my first attempt at blurring the background but retaining more depth of field on the bee ..

this is the workflow ..

This is so good - a different take on the ubiquitous bee on flower shot, and really well done, too.

So outstanding, Roz!! The precision with which you caught the bee and the movement of the wings is just breathtaking. But it's not "just" a good photo - it's so pretty, too! The composition and processing, the colors - all arty and beautiful.

Most charming. All the focus is on the bee digging into that tiny textured flower: we would not know he was about to take off, but imagine ...

This is gorgeous and fascinating... it's not just the bee's wings (which is way cool) but all the pink that really makes this. Excellent composition as well, and very very cool that you're sharing your workflow.

Looks great. The most interesting part of this to me is that blurry wing. It's just the perfect amount of blur and the sense of motion is great. Only weird thing is the other wing looks so static. I realize you don't control the bee... or do you.

I love the motion on this one. Great capture! (I'm curious, how do you position you external flash for this type of shots?)

Perfect balance of detail and blur, especially the motion in just the wings ... wow. Spectacular!

Oooooh! Go away, lady. Just go away! You sure you are not cheating by having little bees with teeny, tiny cameras taking pictures for you?!

Fabulous, of course.
