Cropped it tight to show off the horse. Ignored the rule of thirds. If the universe collapses in on itself, I guess I am to blame.

Same ranch I took this shot at:

... though the similar looking horse is just a coincidence as the horse in Idyll had cancer at the time and was eventually put down.

Apologies for any monitors damaged by the hyper-saturated greens. When faced with a dull colored, late summer field I asked myself WWDAD? and proceeded accordingly.

post: ugh, 2nd 7+ finish w/o a ribbon. thanks for all the comments and favs, it made for a fun week with the update button.

Awesome:

Beautiful process of a well-timed shot. Don't see you breaking any thirds rule here, really. You may have been disappointed about not ribboning with such a worthy score, but getting to the top ten is no mean feat, either - congrats!

No he was swishing his tail, so I would just wait for a swish, click, wait for another swish, click, etc.

Beautiful use of soft focus. Has the wind caught its tail? I also love the greens (saturated just right IMO) and the sharpness through the grasses. You were very unlucky not to get a ribbon but you fully deserved such a high score. Well done.

rule of thirds schmule of thirds ;-)

I think you actually followed the rule of thirds, which is why I am still sitting here today. I thought you might do well in this challenge. Another 7+ no ribbon I see too. Here is a little .gif for your photo if you want it.

I like the softness you added to the photo, it suits the white horse very nice. You've made this into a dream-like image.

I can't add anything 'helpful' - it looks like you've got photography down to a 'T'. I can tell you I think your photo is truly beautiful and I think it will win the Blue Ribbon. It's a 10 all the way!

Hmmmm, when this shot first popped up my immediate thought was "ACK!! Overprocessed!", however after viewing for a bit longer one can apprieciate the fairytaleness in this shot and the processing actually compliments it, and that tail really adds to the shot.. not bad at all really!!

The blur effect on the white horse is a very nice idea. Looks too good on the tail part.

08/25/2008 11:29:21 PM
For a photo with a soft-focus effect throughout, it has been over-sharpened to an almost fatal level. Having said that, I still really like it. The tail blowing like that really anchors the shot.

slippy? nice pose, I like what the treatment did to his mane & tail and the foliage but it is a bit over the top for his body. It makes for a killer photo illustration tho. This horse has a nice kind and interested eye.

Love the rich tones of greens and the soft whites in this composition. The soft focus adds a lovely sense of dreaminess to this photo. It also greatly adds to the sense of softness such that we can almost feel the soft touch of the grass and the silky smooth swish of the horse's tail. Love how you captured the horse's tail blowing in the breeze for it too adds to a sense of carefree days; one just spent feeling the softness of the grass upon the feet and the wind in the hair. Great job; 8.
