Softbox above and just out of frame on the left. White shoot through umbrella below. Various manipulations with the placement of both to get a pleasing vignette effect on the background wall.

The basic editing ruleset needs to be modified to allow all basic darkroom techniques, and that includes dodging and burning for b/w prints. Or just dump the editing rules altogether and let's get on with it. Limiting creative options doesn't pose a challenge, it's just a pain.

post: Thanks for all the comments. First time inside a Toys R Us in 30+ years. Geddes parody, yes. Almost re-shot to do it with the other arm because it looked odd to me w/o the thumb as well.

Thanks again!

Excellent job. The legs make this shot for me -- they do almost look real. (In fact, viewing from the thighs to the right, I'd have a hard time guessing that that wasn't real flesh.) Congrats on the RED!

(Great title too.)

This is quite exquisite. The "missing thumb" freaks me out a little too :-) Plus, at first glance I thought someone was messing with us and calling a real baby a doll... It's a heck of a nice shot, and even beyond the technicals its mysterious real/unreal dichotomy sets it apart in this challenge.

lol! That's pretty creepy actually! Nice lighting and take on a classic shot. Ahh! I kept thinking it looked weird... i think you used the wrong arm! Usually the thumb is towards the camera... seems like a nit pick but with the arm that and the angle the hand is at it almost appears like someone is holding the baby up behind their back...

Well done. I had to look several times to assure myself a doll was used!

Bar none, the most creative take on the challenge, and gorgeously shot.

Do you also have one with the baby laying on the stomach for outtakes, as that would be funny too. lol.

A 10 simply for the effort which is lacking in a good majority of the shots in this challenge.

Obviously, this is a very cool photo. To me, personally, it seems unnatural to have the doll held with this hand and the thumb facing away, so I'd like to swap arms. However, the direction of the light and the proportion of the image is excellent.
