Challenge: Immovable (Basic Editing)
Camera: Nikon D50
Lens: Nikon AF Fisheye-Nikkor 10.5mm f/2.8G IF-ED DX
Location: Toronto, Ontario (CN Tower)

Aperture: f/13

I just purchased a Nikon 10.5mm Fisheye lens and this was a PERFECT opportunity to use it!!! I have seen this lens used to do these cool effects and had been dying to get one for this type of picture... the lens just came in the mail on Friday... JUST IN TIME =)... i had some better ones, BUT they were shot on a diagonal so it would be awkward to submit them... this was the best of the batch... it was just before sunset, so i needed to use a flash to light myself (the sun is behind the Sky Dome... or as some have come to know it, the Rogers Center... but to me it will always be the Sky Dome...) I used a SB-600 with a Gary Fong Lightsphere... at this moment (Sunday Night) there are only 14 submissions... so i'm really looking foreword to seeing the results... Most of the members are entering the shallow DOF challenge... we will see... I'm not expecting a ribbon, but i am hoping for a 5.7 or higher... but i'm really not sure...

[Sep. 14th, 2008 03:57:22 PM]

Here is the original for those who are interested... you can see that the cropping really helped with the effect...

And, here is an out take:

I am currently adding this during voting... and I have noticed that some feel that the pic is oversaturated... For this type of pic, I think it looks good... and there are way more comments saying that they like the sky... but everyone is entitled to their own opinion... ALSO... don't forget... I am shooting into the sunset and the camera is angled up with a fisheye lens, so the top of the image shows the sky Directly above me, sooo this would make the sky much deeper up there... bla bla bla...

WOOO HOOO!!!

I must have hit the update button over a million times this week!!! Thanks for all the amazing comments!!! I couldn't have done it without the help of my Fiance!!!

I'm going to have a hard time beating my new PB!!!

Thanks for all the votes!!!

yea...yea..yea.. over did it with the saturation... BUT I still like it like this... =)

Congrats on your ribbon and PB Eric. As I said I think this is wonderful and agree with you, the saturation levels are great- ;-)

yeah yeah you overdid the saturation but dpc generally LOVES heavy saturation, so sucks to be them! Well done, great shot of the CN tower, and if you ever want to sell the fisheye let me know :-)

CONGRATS! I absolutely loved this pic. I even called my girlfriend downstairs to see it when I was voting! It's also nice to see some home territory make it into the challenges.

I've been in that tower quite a few times, I once took an interesting shot of it with my film camera, way back.
Nice picture, my first was a blue ribbon. Next thing you know you'll be trying to pull a CNN Engine off it's tracks. You've got the fisheye power.

Congrats on the ribbon and PB Eric. I was thinking about this after I voted and I think this photo needs you holding some kind of giant ACME/Wile Coyote-style magnet :-)

I still think this is oversaturated but extremely creative and I'm pleased that creativity won out in the end :-)

Great and different effect. Something different that still meets the callenge. Composition is really good.
Most of the colours are great. The brigth green works. I think maybe the sky is a little overdone, goving it an unatural colour.

Nice use of the lens. Colours are strong... perhaps a little too much on the saturation (notice the blue halo at the back of the green t-shirt). I'm picking this for a red or yellow ribbon. Well done!

Very creative idea. I like the fisheye look on this. It would have been nice to have more time to set up with a rope, stiffened with a wire perhaps, and held in the sky, giving the appearance of being attached to the building. The colors are way oversaturated, and most of the clouds have completely lost all detail in the highlights.
09/12/2008 01:24:59 PM
THATS VERy CREATiVE. i LOVE THE BLUE.

I thought the idea was to show something that CAN'T be moved - it looks like you're doing a great job of moving this though! :-)Fun fisheye and processing though!

Nice use of the fisheye. If you'd had a ladder with someone out of camera holding a rope towards the tower,... Or a Yuri Geller type pose...

Great idea, and I like the composition, and the effect you have achieved. However, and I say this in the nicest way possible, your saturation levels border on obnoxious. Actually, I think they cross the line, but I bet you will do really well.
