Too busy, probably too dark, oddly composed, has motion blur and distortion, and makes for a lousy thumbnail with the sidewalk square dominating the image. I like it. :-) Speaks to me of the safe environment of the family unit. Dad has gone on ahead, probably because he's hungry, but perhaps to ensure the environment is safe and friendly. Mom follows; son is happily oblivious, but holding mom's hand just the same. Or it could be a strangely tangential shoehorn.

Shot while walking along in Reston with some DPC'ers who helped me kill a five hour layover on Sunday - thanks, guys!

PS - literally shot while walking, and into shadows no less, which explains the motion blur, which I still like. :-)

This put such a smile on my face. I LOVE it! The bit of motion blur, Mom leading the way, and a child's trust. Great capture. Wish I had something like this of myself with my girls. I love it.

Yay !! we both got exactly the same on our 'commenters score' :- )

Now if only that could have been the overall score . .

I love this, Deb. And I think it fits the challenge perfectly. The only nitpick I would have is the compsition - cutting off the top of mom. Great job though and I love your style!

Well, this was my choice for the Blue - really disappointed that others didn't see in it what those who left comments did.

omg why would something like this score so low? good lord. voters are snacking on something other-worldly for sure. Safety in the hands of mom... oh well, I guess I am the only one who sees it that way. I like how it's from the perspective of the child. I'm sure that when you are that small, the rest of the world is big and blurry. Great take on the challenge

(and I see you were smart to not put in any GTG photos lol)

It's a nice perspective, in a shoehorn kind of way. :D

I hope the sticker on the child's back doesn't say 'kick me' :0

I enjoyed spending part of a day with you.

I like the perspective and slight motion blur on this.

Nice message... nice photo. I like the black and white. It's a little too blurry for my liking though.

I love the blur around the edges, it really conveys a sense of motion, like the camera is following the family into the building.

Really like the feeling of depth in this shot with the people in the foreground nice and clear and the street receding in focus and clarity.

Only thing I'm not sure of is whether I would rather have had the lady's head in the shot. Hmmm - not sure.

That almost looks like an evacuee label on his back! Beautifully captured, with a real sense of empathy. There is almost a 1950s photo-journalistic feel y=to this.

Yeah, ok, family is safe: most of the time. Sometimes however, it's a risk being around them! The photo is excellent: crop, contrast. Nice random candid shot too...9

Nice enough shot, quite a lot out of focus though.

A very nice photo, but my eye keeps getting drawn to that tag or whatever it is on the shirt. The B&W treatment works well here.

Good candid. Excellent job of isolating the boy and making him the subject.

A great photo but a bit shoehorned into the safety challenge. Still gets 7/10 though.
I like the movement in this image, how the focus is on the kid and everything else is blurred.
