I intended a pun on mourning/morning. I also shot for an interpretation of the challenge that aims to stimulate an emotional response in the viewer, rather than being a more straightforward representation of an emotion itself. I see in this image calmness, and patience, and hope - in that the day begins and goes on, even if you are not quite ready to participate fully in it yet.
Shot in infrared, and with shallow DOF and slight manual defocus to get a softer look.
The subject is the quality of light and as such I believe this qualifies as an abstract.
---------------
after challenge:
s'more articulation of what I saw in this shot, what it means to me:
I just like the quiet and clean look of morning light coming into a dim room - the day as persistent, but unobtrusively so. And then I thought that was the truth about morning - it will come on, regardless, and go on, with or without you. Then I thought of the homonyms - morning/mourning, and thought how it could be a truth about mourning too - when you come to that point in the process where you realize and accept that life goes on and you must rejoin things. So the truth about morning is also the truth about mourning. |

Woefully underappreciated. I visited this image several times in voting, and in fact thought it could be yours. Really very lovely. I envy your ability to really SEE what it is you want to convey, then to make the adjustments (here, the tonality, the focus) to achieve your goal. |

A rare case of an out of focus image being the perfect way to convey of a concept. This suggests to me that someone is bleary-eyed from crying. I'm really curious to see where this one winds up in the rankings. As for me, I'm giving it a 9. Good job on this. |

I really like the feel of this. It's rather empty, lonely. One of those places that looks inviting, but no one ever sits there. Intriguing, and very well photographed. |

For me, it's not a true abstract but is enough of one to overlook the obvious. The title adds to the emotional part in a good way. I think for this challenge, titles were important. |

strangely this one really works. The colors are blah and the focus isn't there. The lack of focus makes it more abstract and the muted colors fit well with your title. |
