Thanks for all the votes & comments. I am so excited to have my FIRST RIBBON!!

I really loved how this turned out, just the way I had envisioned actually. I am lucky enough to have Jamestown Settlement 2 miles away, which was the perfect authentic setting. It was so funny -- when I was there shooting this with Lauren as my model, I had to compete with all the visitors who assumed she worked there and were snapping photos too! It was fun ...

Thanks again! :)

Later: A few have asked about the lighting/processing. It was a challenge, it was drizzling out and we were losing the late afternoon light. As this was shot at 1/3 shutter, I really could have used a tripod. Tourists were still around, adding to the challenge. Anyway, a lot of the images from the shoot were totally blurry for that reason. When I saw this one, I knew it was the one. the lighting was pretty close to what you see. I just needed to work on sharpening (high pass filter), a little shadow/highlight and a tad neat image. I think I did some selective color work & a little dodge & burn as well.

This shot has inspired me to try a 'series' of fairy tales, just for fun. We'll see ...

Thanks again!!!!!

Congratulations Joanne, it is a beautiful shot, my favourite. Now I've been busting to ask you how you achieved the Breugel like quality - could you please tell me/us how you did the post processing, or was it all in the lighting?

Wee bit grainy but otherwise, brillaint. Great setting and costume, she's a sweet wee model too. Good lighting for a basement.

My first thought when I saw this..."this could be a painting."

Eveything here is time period specific and it all fits. Colors, lighting, emotion all are perfect for a Grimm tale.

This is obviously Cinderella at the beginning of her life with her step-mother.

This is a beautiful depiction. I love the way you have set this up. Absolutely perfect in every aspect. The soft lighting and golden sheen is wonderful and the way the room and the girl are bathed in this light is masterly. It reminds me of the old paintings by masters like Vermeer or Rembrandt. The way the background details are enshrouded in shadow is lovely too and the girls white shirt and headscarf create just the right amount of contrast and balance in this excellent composition.
