Borrowed a Flickr texture, added a border from little software package I have.

This is the original. So is the new one better, worse, or just different?

I love this Deb. The texture works so well.

The texture on this just took it to a whole new realm in my book. I love the tones. Beautiful.

OOH - the layererd version just screams to me whereas the "plain" version does not. It's rich and has so much "oomph." Love the burned edge. NICE WORK, Deb!

I like them both for different reasons & it just goes to show it sure doesn't hurt to have a perfect shot to start with! A pictorially beautiful shot with perfect technicals is nice...but I get so much more emotional satisfaction out of the shot w/textures.

This is an awesome example of how a texture can enhance an image. This looks like something I'd find in a very old photo album. I like how the tones warm the picture.

actually i'm not a big fan of textures, but here it works very well, because it adds some grain and detail to the shot. the warmer toning is also better.
i would have gone without the white border tho.

I like the original better. I love the beautiful, limpid water in the foreground, and that's gone in the textured version. But that's just me. You've done a great job with the textures, but I still vote for the original.

I think textures can really heighten the impact of a shot, especially shots of mundane surroundings; where we might otherwise go on autopilot when we view images of the mundane, the texture prompts us look more deeply. If we routinely pick frames and mattes to best present our printed images, we should be able to add textures to bring the best out in them too.

Texture here seems to add just the right touch of further depth to the tones, and I like how the border at the bottom tricks you into thinking you are seeing a crashing wave.

Now I like the effect you have created here - the eye is drawn very nicely onto the main cluster of boats on the right, and the 'distressed edges to the picture help to give it a bit of age and faux authenticity.

The other shot is very nicely captured - but I think pictorially this one is stronger.

Excellent.
