Street Photography worries me. The thought of going through the streets sticking my camera into people faces or even just pointing the camera in their direction makes me very nervous. Also, with regards to my own photography, I instinctively hate anything with a “cluttered” look, so putting all these factors together to get a entry for this challenge was a challenge in itself.
I like the way this picture has turned out although I know in my heart it won’t do well. Street Photography is hugely out of my box but lately I’ve been trying to get images done for challenges I would normally ignore. This has turned out to be a most interesting experience and I haven’t regretted doing it for a second.

Post challenge:
This did much better than I thought it would. Thanks for the comments.
crabappl3 suggested improving the image by having something on one the steps. I SO agree, thanks for mentioning this, I’ll keep it in mind for the next time ;-)

I really like this image. The emptyness of the stairs really adds an impact and mood to this image.

"lately Ive been trying to get images done for challenges I would normally ignore."

I noticed that, Irene, and I've been enjoying seeing your photography talent in other areas than the table top. This one, in my opinion, does not need anything else on the steps. I like it very much exactly as it is. It was one of my top scorers for the challenge.

I don't know, Irene, I like it so much just like it is. . .but then, crabapple3 is certainly a more credible source than me, so I think we better listen to HIM. He made a suggestion on mine that I disagreed with too, but then thought maybe I better take heed :) Prob'ly would have ended up with a better score :)

Not at all cluttered - very organized, very clean, and it did very well!

Introspective pose of the subject - the lines all lead to him .. good pp.

Usually I like a grainy black and white for this type of photogrpahy, but the mood of this particular shot seems to call for a slightly smoother, softer look.

I'm having a hard time with this one. I really like it, and the shot itself seems to fit. However, what appears to be a camera bag at his side suggests this is actually your shooting buddy.

Well composed and processed. Engaging expression from the man. A lot of textures and shades throughout to keep me interested. I just wish there was something on one of the steps on the right, just something whimsical... I know you can't go adding something like that in street photography, but it would be just the pop this image needs to elevate it to spectacular status.

I love the expression you've captured here. The simple composition works well and allows the viewer to soak in other details such as texture and contrast.

A simple clean street portrait - good uncluttered and pleasing setting, nice light. Is he a photog? I wonder because of the bag.

I like it! The composition makes it interesting and appealing to look at, while clearly representing "the street". Great job!

Irene, this must be you, I can recognize the model. You are one of my favorite photograpers on this site, you are so talented. I love the whole composition and color/contrast of the picture, and his face expresion makes this picture a winer, 10.
