I think a stronger composition might help out here - perhaps put the subject on just one side of the photo, using the rule of thirds. Also, I wonder if a little more contrast might make this visually pop a little more.

I really dislike the photos where photographers literally show off with the sadness and poverty of the homeless or less rich people and playing with the emotions with the ones who sit in a warm home with full stomachs in front of the computer. Everyone would say "look at the poor old lady", and then they hit 5 and highter points, but I'm not buying it. If it was a "poverty" contest like the previous I would logicaly understand, but here there are many diferent aspects that can be taken with a camera. I only hope that you gave her some money after taking this shot
