Oh, Yippee!!!! Thanks for the ribbon! And the comments!
When I read the challenge description, I immediately thought “black ink”. Don’t ask me why. So I bought a fresh bottle of black ink and waited on inspiration.
The worldwide financial crisis made me think of “money down the drain”, so this was my first try. It’s water with a touch of ink in it, which gave a sort of murky, greeny, yellow color.

I wasn’t really satisfied with it though, so after loads of shots I nearly gave up and just before cleaning everything up I, in a bit of a bad mood with the whole thing (to put it mildly ;-), kipped about half the bottle of ink into the water, took a trial photo and knew I had found the look I wanted.
Me being me, I wanted a perfect droplet just above the waters surface, which is about as easy to get as winning the lottery ;-) Anyway, hundreds of shots later I finally got it!
Abstract thought I had the coin lying on something to keep it above the water surface. Actually the coin is lying in a bowl and I only have enough water in the bowl to barely cover the edge of the coin. Strangely enough, it still gave a great ripple.
Thanks again, you guys. What a great start to the day!

Striking image, Ribbon-hog Irene ;O). Congrats on another wonderful addition to the portfolio. Judging by how difficult it must have been to nail that water drop... you have the patience of a Saint - but it certainly paid off :O)

Beautiful shot Irene, congratulations on the blue - you ran off with this challenge by a country mile :-)

I'm always impressed by your control of lighting and reflections which seem to be key to your striking shots - they're always worth studying to pick up tips on how to improve my own shots so please keep them coming!

Fantastic photo, Irene.
I have to admit, I tried a water drop falling onto a bill.
I failed so miserably! This makes me appreciate your skills so much more.

Irene - another stunning shot.

The challenge was 'money' and I can clearly see money in the shot - so whatever else is or isn't there this fit's the challenge for me - and certainly can't be faulted on either the technicals or your trademark water droplet :- )

Congrats on the Blue.

This is a great shot in many ways. I think Irene should be awarded the DPC Nobel prize for always finding creative ways to capture water drops.

But, I agree with the previous post. The drop, as beautiful as it is, doesnt add to the message that the title suggests. It may have meant something if the drop was focussed dead on the coin.. almost like some power trying to sink the economy. As it is, the drop is meaningless... unless you can explain the meaning;-)

However, I know how hard it is to catch a single drop in action.. I have wasted almost 500 shots last week to no avail, so I salute you for that.

I don't get the message you were trying to convey at all. The coin doesn't appear to be sinking and I don't see how the water drop adds to the idea of currency or economies sinking. It almost looks like the coin was just set there to give some sort of generic theme relevance to what is otherwise a water drop shot.

Thats definately the back of a German 50 centime coin...looks like an Irene job...

Great smooth lighting across the shot, coin a little bit sharp but thats the only nitpick.

Great timing with the droplet

Stunning!
After noticing the center of ripples...it seems like you might have supported the coin on something so that it stays at the top of the water surface. And then used droplets to create ripples.
In any case, this is one of the bests in the show and should place high.
