I'm torn on this one. On the one hand, it's certainly a well detailed, smooth, clean, pleasantly aesthetic shot. Definitely causes a bit of a pause and a second look. There's also an element where the reflection of the blue looks kind of like eyes, thus adding a wonderful other-worldly aspect as well.

But then I hit the reflection of the drops in the surface, and the whole illusion is completely destroyed. It pulls me right out of the contemplation and back to "oh, right, this is just liquid metal on glass."

I guess what I'm saying is that I don't like the reflection for this particular shot, and feel that it detracts from the image as a whole.

Also, while I usually just let the ribbon winners stand without saying much on them, this is one of those shots where while it's a general DPC shot, my feelings are that it could have been so much more, and was moved to say something.

Oooooooooh shiny. Ya' just gotta' either use the reflections(to add context) or eliminate them(light tent).

Interesting subject. I would have liked to seen a darker background to set the Mercury off a bit more.

crisp and clean, almost clinical. If I had one suggestion to make: the reflections are not as clean as the rest of the pic. (don't get me wrong, I gave it a 9, back to comment)

I'm very happy you used two mercury drops and not just one. Makes a world of a difference to my eyes.

I love the minimalistic look and quality. The reflection in the surface in addition to the flare adds to it. The white does not look perfectly white to me. This is (at least to me) more difficult to achieve and looks so much better! It kind of looks like a pearl finish.

Overall a great picture that deserves a 10!

Superb, would have been a 10 if not for the blue "arrowhead" in both blobs of mercury. Still a solid 9 :-)

Great capture! Did you break a thermometer to get the mercury out? I hope you disposed of it properly??? Sorry, that's the environmentalist and the safety concern coming out here! *smile* Nice stock shot style and look...very clear and well focused.

Didn't anyone tell you you aren't supposed to handle mercury? It's not good for you! Pretty stuff, though.

I would have given you a 10 if you touched it. Just kidding I would have called you an idiot and given you a 5. You will have to settle on an 8.

That's good, I was trying to think of a way to simulate mercury, and I think you nailed it, or is this real mercury? Is it cohesive enough to not stick to the surface?
