Thanks for the great comments, and the super score.
I did pictures of the reel from above, below… I think about every angle and, although they were o.k., none of them really seemed to “flash” me. I picked up the reel again and noticed the piece of wire curving round from the side and knew I had my challenge entry ;-)
I’m glad this did well. Of my own shots, this is one of my favourites.

Poor Irene, you're always "in the kitchen". At least you're doing fun things in your kitchen, too. They use similar stuff (Tin-and-Lead alloy)for stained glass windows, too. This seems like a "Macro puzzle" photo.

Well.. this photo first aroused my interest with it's contrasting textures and sense of smooth repetitive motion patterns. The beautiful monotone conversion is a nice perk!

Very nicely composed and lit! If I could vote (I'm not a paying member) I'd give it a 10!

Just commented on a copper picture that could have done well with your approach. Fantastic picture and entry!

Oooh this is lovely. Not only a great composition (the way the weight sits so heavily on one side against that one slender coil creates quite a tension, for me) but also beautifully sharp and with such a lovely shallow DOF. Mmmmm!

Very lovely stock shot that I'm sure will do well in here.

An interesting picture of tin. Good use of shallow DOF

Fantastic strong Industrial feel - right on the nail in terms of the challenge. Lovely clarity. I like the way that the right hand "side" of the reel runs down the centre of the image, and the cut end forming a "dot" to punctuate the right hand side.

exxcellent details - the contrast, the angled lines, the sweep of the end of the wire - it delivers interest into a potentially boring subject
