Wow. DrAchoo entering a B&W? Ya, I have no idea what I'm doing other than this was the overall best shot I took. I'm not looking to win this challenge with so many awesome photogs (although I'd love to), but I will smile with delight at every comment I get that mentions "Ansel Adams". My hope here is this image will invoke his style and body of work.

If this finishes anywhere close to the top, I'll do a "how it was done" tutorial for the PP.

The trip out was awesome. This place is about four hours away so I drove out the night before, stayed in a little tiny hotel in a town named Mitchell with a population of about 180. Rented a bunk for $15. Got up early the next morning and made it for a wonderful sunrise. I thought long and hard about entering one of the sunrise shots, but because you are shooting into the light the hills are very dark. I ultimately decided to go with this one which has the light behind me with the sun just high enough to light the hill up.

Nicely done Jason! Not suprised to see this was yours although I figured you for a little more color. I am interested in your editing steps.

Funny how that moon retains its roundness while it being so small in your image.

Did you use a fill for the shrub Doc? Fantastic image.

hey Jason... not in a milion I would guess this was yours, just because I was expecting a completly different image from you. But I must say that it's an amazing shot from a great Master!

I so admire your choice of entering a left of field image (for you) in such a tough field.

I'm pleased to see it finish as high as it did. WELL DONE.

A tribute composition, but w/beautiful elements and arrangement unique to this environment - beautiful tone, I think handsome b&w, I'll echo, a touch over sharp.

Jason this is a wonderful image, and one that needs more size to appreciate. Well done.

Wonderful piece of work. For those who aren't aware of it, Doc is paying homage to one of Ansel Adams's most famous images, "Moonrise, Hernandez, New Mexico".

Ain't that remarkable? Check out the SKY. A better reproduction of the Adams would more closely resemble Doc's tones..

A classic! Very Ansel Adams-esque. A very easy 9 from me. Only nitpick is the three brances looks oversharpened on my monitor. The rest of the shot is sharp and soft at the same time. A shot I'm jealous of ;) Great job! This would make one great print.

Very, very nice! I like this one quite a bit - nice contrast with 3 interesting elements for each of the zones. Technically well executed, too - good luck! -- 10 --

Very Ansel Adams...I think he may have been impressed with this one!! Beautiful...the depth and composition are amazing and the tones are outstanding.

To me, it's near the edge of being oversharpened. Near, but not. I love it: 10

Very striking image. I always try to capture light beams painting the ground like this yet can never quite manage it :) You did well.

Awesome bw. I really like the contrast and tones in this. Also, the moon, though tiny in relative size, really adds to the image.

ROFL... About as close as it can get without some adobes in the middleground...

A bit oversharpened for my taste, but that's a nitpick. I'm still giving you a 9. :)

This seems oversharpened to me. I suspect it is much more effective in the larger version.

Black and White tones are wonderfully dynamic. The composition is spot on BEAUTIFUL with the lines of the bare tree to the details seen in the mountains to the moon peering through the rippling clouds above! This shows off the majestic and startling beauty of this landscape. Well done - the photo has a Ansel Adams type feel too it - a "Moonrise" revisited:-)
