Location: Avery Point, Groton, CT
Date: Dec 6, 2008
Aperture: f11
ISO: 100

Galleries: Landscape, Seascapes
Date Uploaded: Dec 6, 2008

with the exception of a little cloning (to remove dust and a small lighthouse), editing was minimal. I hope voters don't "hate" on the flare. this light lasted long enough for me to get about 3 or 4 captures. here's the original (only resized) for comparison.

slight rotation (0.3 degrees), crop, curve layer, hue/sat layer to adjust hue -2. soft-light layer to add just a touch of darkness in bottom left corner for balance. USM at large radius, resize, USM at small radius, add a little brightness, add border.

held a 3-stop, soft ND and an ND filter in front of the lens.

I have high hopes for this one.

I am totally psyched to get a ribbon in this challenge. I thought for sure that there were more than two images that would score higher than mine.

More importantly, it was an absolute joy to be able to witness this particular sunset. I got to the location about 20 minutes before this image was taken. I tried out a couple of other compositions before settling onto this one. Then I waited, but only for a few minutes. The sun hit this perfect angle in the sky, and the light went through the perfect amount of atmosphere. Everything was suddenly bathed in the most glorious golden light that only lasted about 1.5 minutes, enough time for me to get 4 or 5 shots. Then it was gone. Show over. Even though I usually like to stay and shoot in the twilight, I packed up the gear, and my daughter and I walked back to the car. I had what I had sought to capture, and couldn't wait to see this shot on the computer. And, I loved it! This one will stay with me.

That magic when the light is just perfect creates more than just a stunning photograph - a nice reminder that while we do go out to capture pictures, sometimes we capture moments in our heads/hearts as well. Nice you could share this one with your daughter, and 'grats on the ribbon and excellent score!

this one and the red ribbon (and i guess the blue as well) feel oversharpened, but there's something about the letterbox that makes me forget everything and only see a cool frame from a film. nice shot-

It's a 10 of a photo that to me is more concentrated on the rocks then the sunset/sunrise. A very, very good photo...

Great detail on the rocks and blurr on the ocea. Not so sure about the vignetting.

has impact
The reds look a little overcooked
Vignetting on sky almost blends with (unnecessary) border 6
