This is an old image that I wanted to try something different for me, adding text and birds. The bird image was mine I took last week, and I turned it into a brush. The Japanese script I 'borrowed' from some university's rare book collection online I found by searching google images (if I were doing anything else with this rather than posting it here I'd use kanji brushes rather than borrow an image of course). The original image is something I took out a car window while driving, and the overlay is the same one I used for my southwest Christmas image that I don't know where it came from.

Processing:
Crop image
Create duplicate layer, set to multiply mode
CEP Tonal Contrast
Duplicate layer above, multiply mode, 70% opacity, trees mostly masked out
New layer soft light mode, paint a bit of green to accentuate tree detail
New layer for birds brush (black), add drop shadow, outer glow and bevel and emboss effects, difference mode
Duplicate above layer, multiply mode, 44% opacity
Add texture overlay, multiply mode 88% opacity
New layer with blue gradient to bring some blue back to sky, overlay mode 37% opacity
New layer soft light mode, paint with black to darken ground up a bit
Add japanese document overlay, mulitply mode, 77% opacity
Copy just the script from the document to a new layer, add drop shadow and inner shadow effects, 68% opacity
Resize
Add border

Oh, and for those who miss my cats, I did post one in the Side Challenge Marathon the other day:

Very cool! It looks a lot like the place mats they use at various Japanese restaurants around here.

You have Kanji brushes?! And you know how to use them. I'm awed. This is cool, too ...

I like this rather a lot. I would like to see the text a different colour or perhaps a slight drop shadow in white would help it to show up. I love the effect on the trees though. :)

Interesting, you turned one of your photos into a brush? I'm going to have to look into how to do that. This is very appealing.

It has a frenetic feel to it while at the same time almost a zen-like calm. Captivating.
