Greetings from the Critique Club...

I was not able to vote on this challenge, but if I had, I probably would have given you a 6 or 7.

My first thought is that I really like the composition you have chosen. I like how the cardinal just pops into the shot; it's an unusual but interesting choice. The red really pops out against the green background. I also like all the negative space. It's as if the bird is thinking or dreaming. There is not much to critique other than the border. I'm not a big fan of faded borders, but it is not overly distracting. Congrats on your top 25 finish.

Cute how the cardinal is peeking into the frame. Maybe too much negative space though?

This is a nice photo, but something does not work for me. The bird generates some expectation, but the bukeh does not supply the answer. I really like the bird. It seems like some story here. But something is unfinished. It would have been a great picture if the bukeh added to the story. Bukeh to me is not just a fuzzy background. It is a great way to enhance a picture and tell a story.

I think this could have been better. It has the potential to be a great shot, but there's just not enough of the cardinal for me. Maybe a less severe crop would have done better.
