Grizzy Bear has been with us about 6 months. He's a big, tough tomcat that would sneak into the yard to steal food. It took about a month of me talking to him everyday, getting closer and closer, until he finally let me touch him. Now he's a big attention hog and loves to be pet!

Processing:
Thought I'd steer clear of the expensive plugin filters for a change, since I have a new lensbaby to learn!

Shadow/Highlight mildly
Orton effect -- unsharp mask pretty strongly, create duplicate set to screen and merge, copy that merged layer and set to mulitply then gaussian blur around 15, adjust opacity to taste
Convert to B&W using channel mixer
Use clone tool to even out background
Bit of dodging in the eyes and on the nose

Oh, excellent use of the Lensbaby! (And I'm insanely jealous you have one already!) He looks very tough, but very sweet. Pleased he's decided to hang with the rest of the clan!

I'm dying for this. Perfect DOF and I love it in greyscale. WOW - fabulous. My son is getting a new kitty - I can't wait to take photos.

What nice face, he looks like a character (not easy to see in poor light, either). Maybe you can get a shot on one of those bright moonlit nights of New Mexico--the silver tips to his fur would light up real well by moonlight. This is a beautiful portrait. Well done!

Pretty cuddly looking for a grizzly. ;) Love the low key aspects. I'll have to try your recipe - thanks for the editing details.
