 This man is strolling along the Santa Monica city beach, 5 min from my house. I considered this for the sand competition but chose another photo from the same viewpoint (a surfer on a bike). The pattern in the sand comes 50% from the wind and 50% from the nightly beach cleaning tractor pattern.

Would the picture have been better with tighter cropping on the man?

-I increased the wind and drift sand effect by using the unsharpen contrast trick with 50px radius (!) and 15% strength.
-Added a digital warmth filter to the already sunset-colored beach
-Very slight partial vignetting
-Decreased the extreme contrast in the sand pattern (by the low angle sun) by placing a sand colored 20% matte over the picture
-USM 0.6 radius, 50%

I like this enormously - very simple, but so strong. Pat of me would like the lone figure to be trudging his way across the expanse, but viewed from behind leaving the frame - but I like it just fine as it is, too.
