Holly Dunn: Daddy's Hands

I remember Daddy's hands
Folded silently in prayer
And reaching out to hold me
When I had a nightmare
You could read quite a story
In the callouses and lines
Years of work and worry
Had left their mark behind

I remember Daddy's hands
How they held my Mama tight
And patted my back
For something done right
There are things I've forgotten
That I loved about the man
But I'll always remember
The love in Daddy's hands

Daddy's hands
Were soft and kind when I was cryin'
Daddy's hands
Were hard as steel when I'd done wrong
Daddy's hands
Weren't always gentle but I'd come to understand
There was always love in Daddy's hands

I remember Daddy's hands
Working til they bled
Sacrificed unselfishly
Just to keep us all fed
If I could do things over
I'd live my life again
And never take for granted
The love in Daddy's hands

Daddy's hands
Were soft and kind when I was cryin'
Daddy's hands
Were hard as steel when I'd done wrong
Daddy's hands
Weren't always gentle but I'd come to understand
There was always love in Daddy's hands

Daddy's hands
Were soft and kind when I was cryin'
Daddy's hands
Were hard as steel when I'd done wrong
Daddy's hands
Weren't always gentle but I'd come to understand
There was always love ............ in Daddy's hands

This might be too cliché for some but the perfect execution raises it in my esteem. Good exposure, clarity, DOF, and excellent composition: my attention keeps spiraling around and then back to the center. One of my challenge favorites.

I love this. Wonderful contrast of tones, lovely use of DOF. I particularly like the fact the the paleness of the baby's fingers frame the shadows on Dad's thumb. And the subject matter itself is wonderful.

Oh sod it, have a 10 :-)

fantastic emotive shot - the grip of these little ones is so amazing

you have composed this in an outstanding way, how the arm of the baby curls around and forms an S shape with dad's hand - very very good

Well, the title makes my teeth hurt. The image is a powerful one and stands on its own quite well. The lighting, contrastm conversion are all extremely well done.

Very, very sweet - baby's arm looks to be at a strange angle though :)

LOVE the hand on the thumb. Would have cropped it square, without the upper arm and elbow.

One of my faves from this challenge. Beautifuly composed and great job with the b/w conversion. The focal point, where the baby's hands and dad's hands meet, is where is should be. Wouldn't change a thing about this shot. (no vote)
