Sorry, i know some have seen this but i was encouraged b many to enter it in the best of 08. hope its liked

Probable Score: 5.4
Dream Score: 6.3

I wanted to just include this up here, if NikonJeb doesn't mind:

I gotta say this......

For many years, I avoided going to The Wall in D.C.

Too damn many of my friends' names are on it, and I knew it would be really hard to be there with their spirits.

Finally, after many years, I broke down and made the journey.....not that it's far away, or that I haven't made the two hour trek to D.C a zillion times.

It was one of the most beautiful, yet painful moments of my life.

For so many years, it seemed like my friends died in vain, for a reason nobody cared about, and didn't appreciate.

Yet this young lady from Montana managed to capture, in this man's moment with a friend, all of the emotions that come tumbling down on you....when you find his name.

Katherine....you are really something special.

This is an incredibly beautiful and meaningful photo - and I'm really impressed that it was taken by a 17 year old. You are clearly a very sensitive and mature young woman, and I know you will do really well with photography. Really outstanding sensitivity and compassion, and technically and excellent shot. Well done!

This brings back the first time I saw this memorial in person. If you know anything at all about the conflict and the memorial you just can't help being drawn into the sadness of all those deaths as the names on the wall just keep coming. My father was the navigator on missions bringing some of those kids back to the States for burial ... hell of a job.

It's a great moment well captured.

You took this because that what we do - we record life.

I'm sure you were respectful.

This is an excellent image. I understand your hesitation, both with taking the picture and sharing it, but I'm glad you did both. I find the reflection of the young man at the edge of the frame really adds to this - he cannot know the depth of the emotion of the man touching the wall, but perhaps it will cause him to pause for a second and think.

This is a very strong emotional image. I like this shot quite a bit, the reflection is very nice and the composition is nice.

The onlooker watching him really ups the impact of this already poignant shot.

Very emotive, good exposure, I might have cropped it to remove the reflected man on the left.

Very moving. I find the second figure at far left very distracting and intruding. I don't know if this helps or hinders the shot.

What a great photo. I love that the reflection is broken by the lists of names, and is blurred. To me it's symbolic of how Vietnam broke our country's morale. I also like the obvious emotion of your subject. This is what photography ought to do - carry an emotional payload! Among my favorites this challenge.

Alone...except for the guy entering stage left in the reflection. Real shame, cause I really like this.
