Hypostyle Hall in Karnak Temple, Egypt.

First challenge submission here so i'm not expecting much at all but it will be interesting to see what people think. Also only recently took up photography again, after a few years, so my best of 2008 is only really from the last three weeks in December but i thought i'd might as well put one in.
This is quite heavily post processed and i'm sure i'll get a lot of comments about that. I was looking to bring out the alien-ness of the architecture and thought it was suitable.

Post Challenge: Wow! I'm so pleased i did so well with this and got a 6 in my first challenge!! Thanks a lot people for the votes and the great comments!!

Some details: This was from one RAW exposure and PPd in Lightroom so no HDR or Topaz (not sure what Topaz is!)

I got the high contrast effect by maxing out the blacks and also the fill light and taking it from there with curves and colours. Like i said, i was after a kind of hyper-real effect to bring out the alien-ness of the structure. It's what i often feel when there at 6am with no one else around. Not so much how old the place is but just how alien it is. Could very well be on Mars or somewhere. It's pretty breathtaking! Luckily i live 5mins away so i go there a lot!

Thanks again! Onto the next challenge!

Great, my only suggestion would be to try get the contrast a bit darker, but that's just my taste..

This is fabulous! The lighting, the textures, the colors, the perspective, all great, and the sky is amazing. Can't wait to see more of your work!

Welcome, glad you agree. Good thing I came back to check on this image (they have to implement a 'reply' system).

Good shot. Luxor is an amazing place and Karnak is one of my favourite locations. Thanks for sharing

I gave this a 7 - mainly held back because of the crop (upper right really), but the detail in the columns and them set against a perfectly matched sky, really brought this to life. Beautiful colors. On reading this, I'm thankful that the credit I gave for this being real - was due.

This is really cool, the ethereal sky works incredibly with the rigidity of the stone - they play against each other wonderfully. Enough superlatives? Oh, and the lighting is well played. 10

I think the composition is a bit cluttered, but I LOVE the rich contrast and tones here - amazing work!

the perspective and composition really hold our attention - and the lighting from the side provides us a way to see the exquisite detail in the columns

The processing is unreal. Looks like a storybook backdrop. The low angle adds to the imposing character of the structure.
