Challenge: Free Study 2009-01 (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Canon EOS-20D
Lens: Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS for Canon
Location: Hudson, NY
Date: Jan 5, 2009
Aperture: f6.3
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/15 sec
Galleries: Emotive, Animals
Date Uploaded: Jan 12, 2009

My dog, Canon, sleeping on my bed.

Hung up some white plastic shopping bags outside the window to diffuse the light. Put a desk lamp with a 100w daylight balanced bulb behind the bed to illuminate the wall with some fill. Placed my camera on a tripod against the wall opposite the window and attached my 430ex and bounced it off said wall.

Canon pretty much does whatever I tell him so it wasn't hard to get him to lay there and fall asleep. Once in position, I manipulated his head and legs a bit to get there where I wanted.

Adjusted the bounce flash as to not overpower the fill behind the bed.

Crop, curves, saturation.

::Post::
I was saddened to hear that Andrew Wyeth passed away.
Viewers can read and article on him HERE.

I took this shot with the full intention of a tribute to his Master Bedroom painting.
This was two weeks before his death.

This most definitely has an Andrew Wyeth feel to it. That's the first thing I thought when I saw it -- before I read your notes. The light is very beautiful.

I didn't get all the way through this FS as I voted, and never got to this excellent pet photo. Had i seen it I would have given it a 10. I love the composition, the contrast of the dog against the white linen and walls. Thank you for sharing how you set the shot up.

Im glad this ribboned, voted an 8, its so comforting to look at.!, did you manipulate the dog to sleep too? My dog would never stay still for a second with his mind of his own ;) The lighting here and the white room and bed work well!

This just works. I love the way the rinkles in the duvet fit in with the cracks and uneveness of the walls, and the curtain along with the labbie just make this outstanding. 10

This'll be popular but in spite of that it's really very good. Which sounds like a smart-ass remark, but I don't mean it that way; managing that double is quite an achievement.
