Thank you all for your positive comments and generous voting. This was taken on a very foggy day in July. I was disappointed that day, to wake up to less than perfect lighting on my one day in the summer that I get to go shooting. But it all worked out O.K. Thanks.

What a beautiful image. The fog makes the entire scene more intriguing, and somehow more dramatic too. The high contrast black and white is perfect, and helps make the shot feel timeless. I love the bird stretching it's neck upward is in silhouette but the other birds have some details in the light. It works so well.

PostLuminous Award Nominee!
This image moves--it literally seems to move upon viewing--soft layered composition, so well done that I can feel the motion, the air, hear the water and the bird.

This image transports me to a place that I want to be...

I had this one marked as a fave in my mind from the moment I saw it. That one bird being the odd bird out really adds that extra magic to the shot. (no vote)

He stood there, and held his head high. All around him he could hear the calls. Words that hurt, jibes that cut. He could hear their disapproval he could feel their despise. Yet for all of that he stood there. He was different, he knew, but he was still a bird, and he still had a heart, and he still had his pride and his dignity.

Let them cat-call and tease and try and injure. He stood there with his head held high and was always pleasant and kind, and humble and strong.

In the end, they learned to accept him, and the insults stopped, and teasing became nothing more than a whisper, and friendships were eventually formed. In the end, they could all hold their heads up high.

WOW! The fog gives so much mystery and the contrast between the lit birds and the silhouetted bird is so cool.

the mist off the water, the high contrast created by the light on the birds, the leading lines created by the poles in the water - it works together to create a rich scene so that i can almost hear the water

Oh this is fabulous and the clever title doesn't hurt either. I love all of the various positions of the birds with the center subject being in complete silhouette. This is really good and different.
