Challenge: Best of 2008 (Advanced Editing VII*)
Camera: Nikon D300
Lens: Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro for Nikon
Location: Melbourne Australia
Date: May 29, 2008
Aperture: F7.1
ISO: 200
Shutter: 4 Seconds
Galleries: Cityscape, Black and White
Date Uploaded: Jan 14, 2009

The Image: It was a great night for night photography, and the ferris wheel was spinning empty all night. 4 second exposure on the tripod.

The Edit: Converted a layer to black and white with my favourite tint, layer mask to do a selective desat on the wheel, levels, USM, some dodging and burning...I actually ran it through Neat Image, which I rarely used and masked that to only apply the noise reduction to selected parts of the image...that's it.

The Prediction: Is it my best image of 2009? No. Is it one I think might do OK...yes. Hope for high 6's but you never, ever know...

I might get criticised for the darkness or the distortion of the buildings with the wide angle, but that's OK. I might also get comments about the virtues of the selective desat. Some will love it, others won't...that's OK too :)

Cool shot! Really like that you left the color in the wheel. That's clever :)
Reminds me a bit of user AP's style. Very nicely capture and processed. (no vote)

I'm bumping this up a point. The wheel turns an otherwise ordinary skyline-at-night scene into something playful and fun.

Nice blues on this. the slight colour on the wheel makes this photo for me. Would make a nice print.

love the high contrast approach here - and that ferris wheel is just the perfect addition to the shot

I like that the only colors are from the ferris wheel. This is lovely. I love how the lights create that glow in a night shot. The diagonal lines coming from the lights beneath the wheel send our eye up and over to the buildings. Great reflection. 8
