[Jan. 27th, 2009 04:38:10 PM]

This is Gapstow bridge, located in the SE corner of Central Park.

It had been snowing all afternoon on this magical day and most of the park was overrun with people; with the virgin snow muddied by footsteps. I stayed until nightfall, and there was a period of about 20 minutes where the fading sunlight cast a pinkish haze over the park, complimented by the orange glow of the city beyond. This is when the values of the different parts of the scene were closest to each other, and these were my best shots of the day.

PP: Lots of dodging to bring out the detail in the bridge and parts of the snow (like on the trees), and burning in the background which was a bit bright.

I actually prefer this image in color, but Ansel wasn't about that...

Gotta say - I cannot imagine how this shot is busy - there are really only 3 or four components in the entire shot (trees, water, bridge, snow...) It is amazing what people see!

Outstanding work Adam - Clearly one of my favorites in the entire challenge. The richness of the various grays, the deepness of the blacks and the intensity of the brights.

Although Mr. Adams isn't known for his urbgan shots, I think you captured his qualities. Central Park, yes? Anyway, a high vote from me.

One of the best IMO. The snow on the trees defines their shape perfectly.

Love the bridge as the focal point. The image has many other interesting points to look at as well. The contrast between the snow and the dark portions is great. Lovely image. -7
