This, to me, is one of the neat things about trees. They have a life cycle like the rest of us, but are useful throughout, which can't always be said about the rest of us. Even in death they serve a purpose. I'm sure a whole host of insects reside here, and birds stop by to feed on those insects. And as it decays, it replenishes the earth from which it came.

Good DOF, dull subject and composition. For a more "lonely" feeling, perhaps use more empty space in the pic? This feels overly crowded to me.
