 We get a great many pheasants in North Yorkshire - the population is actively managed by gamekeepers, as pheasant shoots are popular. Whilst I hate the thought that these beautiful (if pea-brained) birds are obliterated by a bullet, I do have to say that pheasant casserole on a cold winter's day can't be beaten...

We get a small spattering of them. There's a place I see them regularly, but they are so skittish that I have yet to get a shot.

Excellent capture of this striking bird. We don't see too many here in Pennsylvania anymore. There used to be quite a lot of them. Now the State manages them, producing many thousands each year to be set loose in the fields and woods for hunters during hunting season. Not many survive the hunt and few if any actually reproduce in the wild anymore.

The light reflecting off the breast feathers is a treat. These are very beautiful birds, and you have captured that with this shot.
