____________________________

This is a large snowshoe hare, Lepus americanus, in winter coat. These hares are substantially larger than cottontails. Their major predators are bobcats and lynx. This image was captured in the Chaos Cascades area below Nymph Lake and above Bear Lake, RMNP. The snow is 60" deep this time of year. The snowshoe hare has very large hind feet... hence the name and the adaptation to the snow. They are well camouflaged and difficult to find, until they move.

post challenge: Thanks to all the voters and I appreciate the comments. The first 50 voters had this above "7" average, but the last 50 voters were not as generous. This challenge was a lot of fun to vote on if one made a good faith effort to connect the challenge entry with the Brown Ribbon inspiration. For those who didn't bother... you missed out on the point of the challenge.

This is a beautiful shot. Your DOF is perfect. I really like the white on white, with a clear distinction yet between the bunny and the snow. My favorite of the challenge.

Though considerably better than the original, I still find this shot needs more contrast, depth, texture.
