I like this, I personally don't care much that it is a verry clean insect macro with verry good details, but the color composition here is just perfect.

Hey guys. Wow! Didn't expect to ribbon with this one. That's why I didn't bother putting any comments; didn't think anyone would care.

I used my Sigma 105mm Macro with a 50mm Olympus reversed in front of it ... which gives me a field of view of 2/5 inches. I still had to crop the pic in potrait orientation (from landscape orientation). Not your average bee. I should take a picture of it in my hand to show how small it really is.

Yup it was dead. :) I used my 550EX and 420EX flashes off camera (fired by a ST-E2 wireless transmitter) to light the bee. The background is actually created by the flower the bee was resting on.

What lenses were used for this bee photo? I see an N/A in the photographer's comments section, but I'd love to know if the bee is alive or not, and what macro lenses or filters were used in this particular photo. That would be great. I love this photo!

This one has gotta bee in the top 10. :) Great job! What would be even better is if you could have gotten the purple background to show under the bee as well.

Awesome detail and focus. The purple background is perfect, it contrasts very well with the bee's color and makes it stand out. I don't think you'll get a yellow or a red ribbon, its gonna be a blue one, my top pick.

Excellent work, good luck...

tough to get DoF on something so small.. nice job... if you weren't at the highest FStop setting.. remember to crank that puppy up on macros... either way the shot is great... you can even see the dew on it's head

outstanding macro detail! you did a nice job with the lighting - not too arsh on the eyes showing some detail of the compound lenses

Not at all sure about this. Obviously highly accomplished, there is little to criticise technically, if at all. Some of your choices confuse me though - the extreme shallow dof - and its affect on the attenae, coming in and out of focus ... also I keep wanting to see more detail in the hairs of it's head, but they're out of focus, and I'm not finding enough interest in the patterning of the eyes, which is where he focus is. It's confusing to my eye, but not challenging. 5

If this is who I think it is, I'm guessing this bee is dead, and has possibly been in your freezer for weeks, waiting for this challenge. Anyway, nice detail, very hairy. 10.

Fanastic macro.. love the background colour. 9 only thing that could be better was to have the same focus on both eyes.

I have never been more jealous of another person's photo equipment - not to mention the talent it took to get such a great shot. :-) Really nice job!

Strunning, impressive dof. Great textures, composition, colours. Radius in USM looks like it was a little too large here though. Lots of noise... probably as the photo was taken at high ISO to improve the dof? I'm sure NeatImage could have improved the purple background in particular. Should do well.

Excellent Job, great detail, lighting and colors. High marks, maybe not quite so close a crop on the sides would have made it higher for me.

My favorite photo of the challenge! Congrats. I hope you get a ribbon! This is pure perfection. If this bee is alive, you deserve an award. If dead, well.... nice job in focus and interest. Great color!!!

how did you manage to keep the bee so still??
Amazing shot, but the purple background makes it somewhat humourous and I think that's a shame, since it is such a beautiful macro..

Right feeler is not in focus. With such a small subect, depth of field is critical to ensure it is al in focus.
