Challenge: Hidden Gem -- 1,000th Challenge! (Advanced Editing VII*)
Camera: Nikon D70
Location: New England
Date: Aug 23, 2005
Aperture: f/13
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/500
Galleries: Landscape
Date Uploaded: Mar 6, 2009

Taken about 3 and a half years ago, this has always been one of my favorite pictures.
Taken with the Nikon 12-24mm f/4 DX lens at 12mm.

PP:
Created an HDR from the single original image and added just a little bit of dodging and burning. Sharpened to add contrast. Resized. Sharpened again and voila!

Great sky, rocks and water and nice PP, but I think a different perspective might have made for a bit more interesting composition. 7

A strong one point perspective. I like how different the two sides of the path are.

very nice perspective, cropping some of the sky would have eliminated the distracting overexposed bits imo

Nice leading line and good detail in the stone. The horizon doesn't have much interest and that is where the line leads to. However, the eye is drawn towards the white spots on the right. The glare on the water is a bit distracting as well.

Neat diffraction. I'd also have toyed with 'Segregation on the Seas' as my title choice.

Good color treatment.

The path draws us in and we can then branch left or right to find plenty of interest

Pity about the harsh reflection on the water. It really is a beautiful picture

this is a really cool scene. small nit-pick, wish you had moved forward more so the right side rocks weren't in the image. It's the only warm colors in the image.

Wow! Just stunning. It's amazing how flawlessing the blue blends into the brown, and the contrasting textures as well. Very nice.

03/11/2009 07:09:31 PM
Very nicely done. Great perspective, oppressive sky, the patch of dirt really adds a complexity of color. Can't decide if the flare on the left adds to the shot or not. Top 100.

It's a nice vanishing point, and maybe something could have been done with the crepuscular rays even. Unfortunately, there is nothing that holds my interest at the point of vanish. :(

03/11/2009 05:50:37 PM
Very nice. It has a richly textured feel with lots going on between the dramatic sky, water, textured path and rocky foreground. The odd tilt of the path gives it an unbalanced feel, possibly not as obvious if not for the centered composition.

Really like all the little boats in the harbor and the contrast of the red sand/dirt on the right compared to the overall blue tones of the photo.

03/11/2009 03:23:20 PM
wow, its lie looking at two diffeernt worlds. the sun sparkling on the left is grogeous, the sail boats to the left have the feeling of a safe harbor. very interesting photo

a very pretty spot, rich colors/tones like how the sun is "peeking" though

great leading lines, and great cloud textures.

03/11/2009 12:11:31 PM
Neat perspective, but I think the blue is oversaturated. The purple sun beams are kind of distracting.

I like the textures and varying colors. The sun rays add to this. A bit dark for me. 7. Nice visual lead of the eye to the center of the photograph.

My eyes are going back and forth between the jetty and the sky, there is no central point on where my eyes could rest. Maybe making the sky standout less would brings more attention to the jetty.

Very nice shot, but I get the feeling that the horizon is not quite horizontal. Very nice brown on the right.
