At the time of the shoot for the "Bad" challenge(since they were already in costume) I decided I wanted to get a kind of "American Gothic" like shot. I carried this very heavy bench and placed it in an open snowy field. I asked my nuns to just sit up on the bench and try and look as stoic(sp) as possible. It was -30 freakin degrees wind chill. They lasted about 14 seconds on the bench and the cryin started. I was yelling "Stay with it! and "Sit up straight!" , "One more shot" they were yelling "Our faces are freezing " and "Dad nooooooooo!" Too funny!

At any rate this is what I managed to get. I think it is a classic :D

Thanks for looking

Coley

Above is what I wrote when I originally took this photo. I have since had huge success with this image. It placed as an honourable mention in last years Spider Awards for People in the amateur category. I have sold prints of it countless times as well. It is my hidden gem it is one of if not my Favorite shot.

I smile every time I look at. These are my peeps I love them dearly

Thanks again for looking

Cole

They don't look too happy about this shot! Of course, that is what makes the shot work so well. Nice exposure management, here.

Wow, I can read the mind of the center nun: "Let's get this show on the road!" Funny image, I like the way B&W along with the snow seems to simplify it. Very nice.

These gals are hysterical. Reminds me of 2 summers ago when I fed home-made pizza to 6 nuns on a "field trip" to the Cape from Western Massachusetts. Was the first time 5 of them had seen an ocean.

Of course, this is winter and this ain't an ocean, but memory lane and a kick in the humor bone makes this an 8 in my book :-)

I just realized this is definitely Coley at work :-)

This is an awesome photograph that captures a great scene. I love their very indivdual expressions. Technically very good too although there are a few dark smudges (clouds?) above them on my monitor at least which stop it being a 10. Still a 9 and I'd love to see this on a poster. Well done and good luck for the rest of the challenge.

Perfect B&W conversion along with lighting. The contrast is great imo and the different facial expressions add to the shot. Very little in the picture to distract from the subject(s). Well Captured and deserves a bump-up. Congrats on a nice photograph.

So Cole, is this the same bench you got you lovely wife to help you lug all the way out to your tree in your Grief shot? If so, don't you think it's time to get one that's a little lighter?

I always thought this was a fantastic image and it's nice to see that you entered it into this challenge, I'm sure it will do well.

You must have a popular guy that day, it looks mighty cold on that bench.

All the best to you and yours.

MAX!

Voted earlier coming back to leave comments now. The B&W treatment is absolutely wonderful! The thing that stands out most to me is their expressions and how they are all bundled up. They are absolutely freezing in that cold chilly wintery wind! I can feel the cold just by looking at these three. The 'nun' on the far right is none too happy and actually looks as if her teeth are going to chatter in the next second. I can't decide between two different interpretations of what her expression says. The first impression is that she is freezing and her teeth ARE chattering. The other expression is of impatience...'hurry up and take the bleeding shot!' perhaps?:-) The possible story of why these three nuns are out in the cold has me wondering why ARE they there. Perhaps they are doing penance....Perhaps the cold is symbolic of the fact that they are doubting their religion and have been left 'cold' with no answers but only more questions...the story possibilities are endless.
