Yippee!!! Thanks for the ribbon!!!

I originally did this one for the challenge I liked it o.k.ish but wasn’t completely satisfied.

I’ve also always wanted to try a match shot so this seemed the ideal opportunity. However, knowing how many tries it takes me to get anything decent, I bought 6 boxes of matches and used EXACTLY two boxes before getting this shot ;-)
I used a black background and two flashes, one on each side of the match but slightly to the back (same way you do to get smoke images). It was difficult getting a good flame burst but I also wanted enough smoke to make the whole thing more interesting. I found that blowing ever so gently on the match whilst lighting it from another match gave quite a bit more smoke.
It probably looked hilarious – me blowing gently on one match whilst lighting it from another, dragging the other match away as quickly as I could and hitting the shutter to get the burst.
Talk about multi tasking ;-)
Thanks SO much for the great comments and score (and for the fav).

You did it again. And not even with a water drop, it's more like the opposite of water. Nice sharpness and cloud like smoke.

I have a question, see if anyone can answer. WHO IN THE WORLD rated this picture with a 2? It must have been either a blind or an envious person. Geez people, come on now! Be real!

Irene, your shots are always marvelous, and I admire your perseverance. You try and try and try until you get the perfect shot. You are a perfectionist, and I love that!

CONGRATULATIONS!

Definitely the way to go.

The best of the bursting matchstick images in this challenge, by far. Well exposed and the blue/red color combination works well.
