Took the shots that make up this HDR on a photo road trip with my girlfriend desertsnail. These were taken in an abandoned house near Essex, CA. If you're ever in the area, steer clear of the main part of town as there is an angry old man that yells at you and tries to make trouble if you're taking photos of the old buildings...

7 exposures combined using Photomatix Pro, opened in RAW for further adjustments, then final tweaks in Photoshop. I didn't even know what the Member challenge was when I shot this, but just happened to have it from the trip and saw that it would fit the challenge. I have NO clue how well this will do...

Greetings from the Critique Club

First of all, let me congratulate you on getting twelfth place in this challenge, well done.

I'll be honest I gave this a 6. Probably I was hovering between a 6 & 7, but I think the blown out highlights did spoil it a little bit, so I ended up with a 6.

The HDR is very well done, but has left the image with a slight soft feeling, as one of the commenters noticed.

Overall I think this a good photo for the challenge. How lucky that you happened upon it within the right time frame.

Sarah

What a place, lost in history I see, and the editing works for the subject(s)

I like the tones rendered here by what I assume was Topaz. The composition is not totally leading my eye though. Maybe just a bit on the busy side for this pixel size. Not totally sure.

Was there no way you could have framed out that darned hot spot? This image is soooo close but is really hurt by that beam of blasting light and the resultant lack of contrast in the rest of the image.

LIke the atmosphere. Wonder if it could have been done without the burnout.

I like the HDR in this...I don't usually like the plasticky look in some HDR shots, but this works well to a great effect 8
