This is my first wild animal shot that wasn't in a zoo. Timing and luck was on my side that day.

Tuesday got off work early and headed out to Big Meadows for the afternoon along with a short hike. Once I arrived and put all my gear on - headed out to see what could be found. Headed to the far left of the Meadow to follow the tree line since all the Tourist were on the right walking around the fire road.

Once getting a good distance out, there was a Deer about 300 yards ahead. Long story short, once close enough - I noticed the little one walking around her mothers legs. The mother allowed me to get (no joke) 15 feet away from them. Sat down in the grass and began to click away. At one point (looking through the view finder), the little fawn started trotting towards me and looked as though she was going to jump in my lap. The Mother cut her off in the nick of time.

I've never seen a Fawn in real life before this moment. It was an absolute treat to have her and the Mother meer feet away from me for more than 20min. What a gift. Hope you enjoy.

Beautiful capture. I have fond memories from many years ago of blueberry picking in Big Meadow and then going back to the campground and making blueberry pancakes and blueberry syrup. Quite often we were joined in our picking by deer.
Thanks for the memories.
Great shot.

Marvelous shot. You were very lucky to put yourself in the right place to get this shot. This should be on the monthly free study.

This is just awesome Tray. You were really fortunate to have this opportunity. The fawn is so clear and the BG is perfect. Great catch!

Absolutely brilliant image and story. Great lighting, detail and DOF. You're very lucky to be able to get so close to the wildlife. Around here you're lucky if you can get within 150 feet.

Oh how wonderful! This is a gorgeous shot - just as soft and sweet as the animal itself. Lovely comp, light, color, background, DOF - you truly nailed this. And best of all is the story that goes with it! Yes, I very much enjoy it - thanks for sharing this!
