this is so great, the colors, the angle, the composition

This is really outstanding. Never would have thought to tilt it this way, but it works so well with the subject, soft focus, and muted tones. Beautiful.

um...not a montage..its all in the angle. Try reading the difference in rules regarding basic and advanced editing.
06/11/2004 09:52:38 AM
I like this image a lot, but am confused about the rules (yes Im new - sorry). The rules state that no selection or editing tools may be used, but here grigrigirl has selectivly deleted parts of a layer copy. To selectivly add colour to the dressses would seem to break the rules, as far I can understand them?

The rules also seem to preclude putting multiple images on top of one another, as without special blending modes and/or a completely black background and/or selective deleting, ghostlieness would occur. Unless the left girl is 2 foot taller than the other two, or jumping in the air, then it would appear to be a montage?

Anyway, I still give it 10.

Girl - if that is intuition, then you'd better just roll with it, 'cause I've never seen better results!! I feel like congratulating you again, every time I look at that photo!

It is hard for me to explain how i did this as I am more intuitive than technical. I sit around and play with things until I get a desired result or trash it. Results are experimental. I layerd the image first and adjusted levels...erasing to the original layer in areas that needed it. Flattened the image and layered again...adding a bit of blur to soften the dreadful background and erasing parts to expose the dancers...adjusted levels on both layers. Flattened and layered again to desaturate and erase areas to bring out color...again adjusting levels on both layers. I finished it with a bit of diffuse glow to soften and lighten it further. I saw a lot of flaw in this but went with it anyway...I had given up on the experiment and settled with what i had. I still thought it was pretty. :)

This is one of the best examples of fine art I have ever seen on this site.
It caught my eye immediately while glancing through the thumbnails. It is stunning.
A huge congrats on an excellent job!

Would really love to know the details on this one.

I haven't been on the site in awhile, but this caught my eye immediately. What an absolutely stunning piece of work. I am truly surprised that you did not put any details under your comments section. I cannot possibly be the only one who would love to know how this wonderful photo was accomplished. Congratulations on one of the most beautiful images I have ever seen.

How did I miss voting on this one? I know I didn't get to all of them but I'm sure I would have recognized this one. Great job with the desat and soft focus. And the slight vignetting is also a very nice touch as it adds to the emotion of the ballerinas. Great job!

Despite the potential the subject has for saccharin sentimentality, this image avoids it completely. The composition is highly original....how many photographers would see the potential to make the feet stand out by rotating the canvas in this way? The movement is accentuated by the desaturation and the poses by the burning/dodging. Podium finish by rights.

Just lovely -- I like the one subject is full and just parts of the others. The post processing is heavy but I really like the effect. The sense of movement in the skirts and stillness of the arms and torsos is perfect. -- one of my ribbon picks

Very dreamy looking apearance. It has been said to you a million times already, so I will forget the "looks like..." comment. Like the colors and blur. The editing takes a little away from the "real" photo, but still an 8.

This is an amazing capture. I wouldn’t change one thing on the picture at all. The border I would keep plain white. There is plenty of pink in the picture already. Bravo for this beautiful work of art. 10

This is as near to perfect as I could want or imagine. Even the tilt is effective. Soft focus works very well, and the tones are just marvelous. Congratulations! 10

Beautiful photo. One of my favorites. The desaturation really works here for me primariloy because the photo is so soft. The editing is fantastic. I wish I could l do this. When you win a ribbon please tell us how you did this

A work of art. Reminds me of a hand-tinted B&W print. Great positioning of the models - the unusual perspective adds a lot of interest. The only thing that doesn't quite work is the strong vertical line that merges with the middle model's right shoulder. YOu could not have picked better colors for this.

Very nice Degas. Great composition and just enough movement to be expressive. The right ballerina's arms and dress are blown out, but not horribly. Well done!

I really like this shot. It's an excellent example of taking a nice subject and turning it into something truly exceptional. I think the border would be better plain white instead of pink, but that's a minor point. Great job!
