 Yes, it's a ptarmigan. We don't have pigeons anywhere close by. So, I expect the DPC voters will be really smart and really particular. No problem if this doesn't score well. It is a good photo of a White-tailed Ptarmigan, Lagopus leucurus. Not related to a pigeon. Sort of looks like a pigeon, if one is not too discerning.

I was going to title the image "P_tarm_igeon". But that may have provoked a backlash.

Image captured at 12,000' above sea level, on the Ute Trail in RMNP.

I think this is a Ptarmigan. Not sure it meets the challenge. It is a very nice picture none the less.

Not what you expect when u think pigeon. Like the was you have captured him on the rock to show the great camoflage he has

Very pretty picture of a very pretty bird -- but that looks to me like a partridge, which is not even a member of the pigeon family. And I was sort of thinking that the pigeon's particular status and reputation would be an important part of the challenge. Lovely shot though.

Isn't this a Ptarmigan? Not in the same family as pigeons (which are Rock Doves).

That's the smallest beak I've ever seen on a pigeon! Nifty bird, and a great picture of it. (I'm going under the assumption this is indeed a pigeon of some kind. My search engine at work won't let me try to find out otherwise.)
