I love when sc allows us to discover images I'd never have otherwise seen. This is just so wonderful on so many levels. But I especially love the paver "sky". A breathtaking capture.

I hope the tide is turning to a more artistic look at dpChallenge -- but THIS -- this is just an all-around fabulous photo no matter WHO is looking at it. Congratulations on all your yellows :) In a free study, that means it would turn blue in any other challenge :)

Congrats on the ribbon! Beautiful comp!

I'm amazed at how the reflection shows a building behind the men but, it's not behind them in the top portion of the shot?? You have me puzzled so, perhaps, you can share your process with us??? Congrats!!

ETA: Ahhhh.....nevermind telling us how you did it! LOL I just flipped my laptop upside down ROFL to see that you rotated the shot upside down. DUHHHH! LOL Really great idea and very clever because it gave a great effect! :)

Oh, you and your big black frames. :-p

Congratulations on the ribbon. I love this photo. It looks like the men are walking through a cloudy dreamscape and reminds me of that old "Mr. Jordan" movie. Welcome to the afterlife.

wow, congrats Nick! Must be the first time when a street shot wins a ribbon in FS! it is a rare case when reflection is more clear than the "original", because the couple in the reflection is perched against the light sky and in the original they are almost lost against the dark wall

I love how you've used the reflection to show more of the trees and building. Also it's great how the building has been minimized behind the men. Looks great in black and white.

I've got two brilliant examples of high-contrast black and white with excellent rich shadows, so I give each one a yellow ribbon. Here's one for you:

Fantastic, but the border should have been decreased to 50% in my opinion. It overpowers the shot.

OK, I'm going through the Free Study submissions, purposefully finding those images I think are shot with a less conventional eye - this is one of those images! Thanks for offering something that isn't just DPC friendly eye-candy (though of course there's nothing wrong with eye-candy):

Positives: Some of the images I find myself commenting on this comment series are ones which have much wider appeal - this is one of those. The quality here is so high, how could anybody not love it! I wonder whether you stood over the reflection and waited for the right people to come along or whether you were really, really fortunate - I'd put money on the former; this is too 'crafted' to be accidental. I love 'crafted' images - for me, that's what photography is about.

Everything is right about this image - the focus, the camera angle, the exposure, the composition...even the border (and I hate those things!!). A 10 from me.

Critical stuff: Nothing really.

Overall: Stunning, I hope it ribbons.

inverted ... great choice .. caught my interest - love the 'dried mud texture' in the sky look ... crisp, focus is dead on.. what's not to like? 9
