You managed to capture the decisive moment and included all the elements necessary to complete the story. The dark future and the secure, ordered past... I don't know how this could be improved.

this would have been really fun with advanced editing. or maybe a oong shutter speed, with him just standing and the rest of the room moving

too many things in this photo (the pink bag is really distracting) and by the looks of it, it seems like the camera was not held under the right angle

you've got the emotion there, the colour though is too matter of fact. Bit of curve editing, de-saturation maybe even B&W...

Comes off to me as a snapshot, but one that captures the moment perfectly. Perhaps some additional editing could have taken it away from the snapshotty feel, but then it might also lose the reality of the moment.
