I liked the idea, but I don't care for how it turned out. I had a wonderful shot of a neighbor kid getting off the bus that would have done so much better. But I don't know these neighbors, so I figured I shouldn't put up a picture of their child. *sigh*

I'm guessing a 5.2 if people are feeling very generous. Hopefully a few will appreciate it, though (please?)

Ok, it's only 57 votes--but still, it's 57 votes, and it's currently at 6.5263--I'm floored! Pleased, happy, and trying not to be too excited, but floored all the same. Surely the bottom's going to drop out any time now...?

[Sep. 14th, 2009 08:25:42 PM]

Ok, one day left to go and I just hit 6.6 with 170 votes. I'm still amazed. I was so excited about this idea when going to shoot it, that I stayed on my knees, in the rain, holding an umbrella while my camera was on a tripod in front of me. I stayed on my knees for about a half an hour (everything was running late on the first day of school.) I don't think that my son's in this shot, but he was in a couple of my other ones.

I played a lot with the exposure, because I didn't know how long to make it. I've only done something like this twice before, and I forgot to look at what settings worked, so it was all one, big experiment.

Thanks everyone!! What an incredibly fun ride!!

Congrats on your new ribbon, and like JuliBoc said, it great that DPC voters are finally getting comfortable with some blur in challenge shots. This is an exceptional creation and well presented. It captures the spirit of the morning, even the rain helps.

Congratulations on this marvelous entry and for the well deserved ribbon. You really captured the back to school chaos and, as you said in the title, frenzy. I'm so glad the voters liked it. And the real miracle is a blurred photo with no low votes at all.

early you had sent me a email stating "haha! If everything I have is great, you have very low standards! But thanks for the compliment!" I don't think I have low standards I just think you are on the wrong team, sucking is so not a word in your vocabulary. Oh and by the way congrats on your finish.

Wendy, this is AWESOME! Congratulations on your honorable mention with this. I am so HAPPY to see the voters coming around about this whole artistic blur thing. Used to, some of the most amazing and artfully done blur photos would get slammed. Yayyy! I love the shift in artsiness. This is FAB!!!

Do you have an off button? You keep cranking them out! Good job, especially with a hard to pull of blur shot. You just never know what will resonate with people.

those yellow buses, crying out HDR ME HDR ME. Nice shot you've got the motion there. If I was being picky (and heck none of my shots have got above 5.9 so dang it I will be) it looks more rushed than frenzy and the tops of the buses are blown out rather.

10. This is the quintessential "going back to school" shot; school buses, kids scampering off to class. I like the motion blur for that "frenzied" hurried feel. The fresh rain was a plus for you in adding some decent reflection. Personally, I like the tilt for lining up the buses on the top of the frame. Nice composition. With that said, you must know how fickle the DPC crowd can be, so I'm thinking some voters may not like the tilt and may not like the blur. I'm hoping for this to ribbon, my favorite of this challenge.
