These are black vultures (a little less strange, but less colorful than turkey vultures.) The thing that was kind of creepy was they were sitting on a light post outside of a restaurant!

When my friend Beverly and I would ride way out in the Texas countryside, we would ALWAYS see vultures somewhere along the way. It got to be rather humorous after awhile - we'd just call out "We aren't dead yet!" but would always think in the back of our minds that cyclists on roadways in Texas were a pretty good bet for vultures....

They sometimes collect around the dumpsters at the local restaurants in this area too. They hunt by smell and sight, and have learned that they can sometimes get a free meal there.

LOL maybe that's a warning to not eat there! :-) Wish there were such obliging vultures in my neighbourhood.

Somehow I don't think a row of patient vultures outside a restaurant would make me think that was a good place to eat ;-)

Remember those guys in Dumbo "When I See an Elephant Fly?" I can't help but chuckle. This has GREAT focus.

Nice how they are all lined up waiting to gobble up whatever dies in front of them! Well done with respect to details. (Although on one of my monitors the vultures have halos around them - and I am sure the halos are not the result of their good deeds.)

wow, now that's a motley crew... nature's garbage men, eh?

ETA: i like how the background is blown out, it works really well

LOL, good title, but i am not wanting to attend : )
I have always liked the turkey vulture.
I do wish they were not quite so dark, I would like to see them a little less dark and maybe a bit more red in their head.
Mostly tho, I like it

edit:
sorry for not reading your comment more carefully! These vultures look great, considering that they are not turkey vultures : )
