Well done Judi. You got an 8 from me for the shear energy of the shot and the beauty of those horses....and Bah Humbug to those who were so picky about HDR using three or more separate exposures instead of tonemapping.

6 from me. That's good. I only gave 5 photos higher than a 6.

Good management of the exposure. Moving subjects are not easy, nor plausible, subjects for multiple HDR exposure blending.

I like the action in this scene, but I am not sure if it was a good choice for the treatment. It gives a strong orangey look to that first horse. Perhaps selectively turning down the reds in some areas of the photo would help it for me. There is also some visible tilt that I think is also an issue.

Beautiful details on the animals. The colors are great too.

I shall be rating this challenge by the following criteria:

1 - Not HDR in my opinion

3 - HDR is way over-done, in my opinion

5 - A reasonable use of HDR, but not a very engaging photo, in my opinion

7 - A reasonable use of HDR, and an engaging photo, in my opinion

10 - A fantastic use of HDR, and an out of this world photo, in my opinion

Your photo receives:

7 - although this is toeing the line for 'over-use' to me. Might have been a 10, with just a slighter, more subtle use of 'cartoony'. I like the engagement between the riders.

Love the look you see between the two gentlemen! On top of that, the HDR brings out the detail in the animals very nicely.
